design do or dont?

When I was designing these, I wondered about the layers...Is it ok to layer below..not on top? So the eyes and nose are actually below the other layers.
Ok, what one do YOU like better? One has a lot more layers and the other is so much easier to put together. Do you see a difference? I have 3 examples below :O)

    LEFT! DEFINITELY LEFT!!!!! I love how these turned out Kathy....super job!!! BTW....did I tell you I like the LEFT ones better?????? haha!
