Wow, this took some time to make, Karon cut out the top of a pocket from

her daughters jeans and sewed it to another pair of jeans to make this cool journal.

She even sewed the flower on!

I think I would of glued..hehehe

Day 20 - Chris's project

This was kinda hard to photograph but it is a stand to hold sticky notes. Gotta hide from my kids, they love to take my sticky notes and make those moving picture books, flip books I think they r called..lol
So they draw a picture on each page and then u flip the pages quickly to see the "movie" It is fun to see how they think but man, like I said, there goes all my sticky notes!
Love the embossed butterfly!

I got these cute tins from axman! Love that place :O)

I got the lockets off ebay and the chains I had to buy a big strand of chain and then added the clasps and end pieces myself.

Then I made a perfume to put on the inside of the locket. Using beeswax and jojoba oil, the perfume oil I used was Egyptian Shalimar. Love the scent. I spent over an hour testing scents at a local herb store, I left with a huge headache..lol

I found when I made the batch, it might not of been as strong as I could have made it.

I wanted the smell to come thru the locket so you could smell it outright but the smell of the metal itself from the locket was stronger. I was afraid to add too much. But if you rub and apply to the skin it leaves a very fresh scent.

I also made some for my daughter but added lip balm to the locket instead of the perfume.

After I made them I got to wondering if maybe the lockets had lead in them since I did get the locket from China, so again off to ebay, I ordered a lead kit and tested the locket and it came up free of lead. Would of hated to toss those all in trash..lol

It was a very fun project to make. I used a medicine dropper to add the warmed perfume waxes and oils to the locket. Had to do very quickly though cuz it cooled fast and plugged the dropper. I found I could usually do 2 lockets at a time, if I did it immediately. If I didnt do it quick enough it would splatter all over the locket and created a fun mess to clean up.

This gift took a long journey to get to us, all the way from Canada!
Now I have seen these before on cards, it is I believe called a waterfall card.
I never thought they worked too well on cards but this is absolutely perfect for a calendar!

What a very creative use for a card technique!

I had alot of fun making these. Took forever though. Figures, I had just got rid of a ton of jeans my kids didn't wear. Donated them, then decided on this project..lol
Not too smart. So had to beg jeans from everyone I knew, then I ended up just going out and buying them so they were the right size..LOL. I tried to use this high tech glue but didn"t seem to hold so good, so I used a drill. Let me tell you, I busted several drill bits... Luckily guess what I found on sale at Menards on black friday, You guessed it, drill bits :O) Hope everyone enjoys! If not, donate to some teen..heheeh

Hailey brought a great ending to our Manager 7 Days of Christmas swap! I have always wanted one of these but I don't sew. What makes this such an extra special gift is that she had to come up with patterns for not just one machine but multiple machines! We have a Silhouette, a Wishblade, 4 different KNKs....among us! What a challeng this has been for her but we all LOVE our new covers! Thank you so much Hailey and thanks to all of the managers who contributed their time & effort into this fabulous swap!

Manager Swap: 7 Days of Christmas...Day 6 (Karon)

Here's what I created for the Managers 7 Days of Christmas swap! It's a miniature first aid kit that you can put either in your purse or your car! I simply altered an Altoids tin and found the supplies to put inside. I even found mirror tiles at an online site (that fit) to put inside for those moments when you need to grab a mirror to check something. Thanks Kathy for that GREAT idea! My favorite part of this box is the die cuts I used to decorate the top of it. I put my Cuttlebug to use and embossed the bandaid to make it look more realistic! Hope everyone enjoys it!

I can't decide if I want to hang mine up on my rearview mirror or attach it to my keychain so that I can always carry it with me. They are so pretty...and look like they took some time to make. Theresa you really surprised all of us with this one. You asked a couple of months ago for all of our information (address, phone #, e-mail, etc) to compile a centralized group for us all to use. Little did we know you really did have a reason for this! Ever since we started swapping with you...you have had these cool business cards to include. Now we all have our own set! I didn't take photos of everyone's but we all have our own design. Thank you for the pretty holder too. I am so excited...I played with the photoshop blur tool for the first time to protect my identity on this card...and was successful! Thank you so much Theresa for such a useful gift! Love it!

Esther had us all guessing with this very pretty wrapping and cute tags, but she was first in our first annual manager swap on the TSI forum. To start us off she gave us one of her famous interactive cards....a unique one that includes a test tube full of candy! How did you know I like Smarties Esther? Now on to the big surprise. Esther made each of the managers in our swap a perpetual calendar! I almost made these for the 2009 TSI Forum 12 Days of Christmas swap and chickened out. I still have the supplies. I realized how much work it would require and I didn't really have the time. So here it is, her version of this calendar which took her an entire month to make for all of us. Thank you Esther...we all LOVE it!

Now this was a fun gift. She made a cute snowman covering a Hershey bar. I just love the fleece hat and my kids are already asking for the candy bar! We are having another 12 days before Christmas swap on That Scrap Inc. It is so much fun!
I just love seeing all the GREAT ideas my fellow crafters have come up with. This year the managers also had a Christmas swap. I am still getting those gifts in the mail..sooo excited!
Here is the picture of all mine wrapped up. The big presents were for the managers and the little ones are for the 12 days swap.

Geo-caching. Has anyone tried it? It really is so much fun. It is a treasure hunt and you would never believe these things are right under all of our noses! There will be atleast one, if not more, in just about ever state park out there. And not just in parks either! Most of them are on public land but there was one in my town that was even on private property (owner of course gave permission) What these treasure hunts are is simply people hiding waterproof containers around with little goodies in it. Mostly little trinkets, keychains, small toys things like that.
If your lucky, you will find one with a geo-coin or travel bug in it. These are so cool! Each having their own code so they can be tracked. You take one out and then put it in someone elses "cache" So they actually travel all around. Even internationally! They have their own website so you can see where and how many miles they have traveled. My husband took one from our town and he is going to find a cache in Florida to drop it off. Some are very very small which only hold a log (you log your visit so the owner of the cache knows who stopped by) to one in our neighborhood was inside a regular garbage can! I have seen some on the web that are very tricky, like a pine cone was hallowed out and the log inserted then hung on a tree! It is nice that each geo cache is rated by how hard they are to find to even how bad the terrain is. So if your handicapped or maybe just don't feel like working hard for one, you can choose easier ones to find.
I have to say, it has been a great new hobby that my whole family LOVES doing together. And it is free!
Can't say that too much anymore about anything..LOL

Here the kids and their friend are there with the cache. This was a cool one. The owner of the cache even included a camera so you could take a pic of yourself and then they posts it online under their cache information.

It sure is alot of fun!

How about a cute little "chapstick purse" and a fun way to present a box of tic-tacs? I hope everyone enjoyed their treats....they were fun to make! Reindeer Poop!

Ewww you say? Well this is what we put in the surprise stockings project for Austin's 3rd Grade class. We even made up a few extra to send to school with Ashlynn to share with her Kinder-Prep class. Fun stuff! What is it really? I dare you to try one...........hahaha! Just kidding....it's really Whoppers! I was fortunately able to be in Austin's room when the kids opened their stockings and one little boy gave the most hilarious look when he saw this in his stocking. Too bad the camera wasn't handy!

The gift we opened on Fri, Dec 18...which was Day #6 of the 12 Days of Christmas swap.... is one thing I think I've always said I needed....a Christmas planner! I love the creative way that Mary put this together and it looks so fun to use! Mary even e-mailed us the file so that we can print out the lists again for future years. Now that makes the gift even MORE functional! Thanks Mary!!!

I have a confession to make on this one. I've been friends with Chris for long enough to know she had mentioned at one time quite awhile ago wanting to try this technique. So when I held the wrapped package, I knew instantly. That didn't spoil my surprise though! It turned out so adorable! I can always use a coaster in my scraproom and this one really fits the bill! This coaster was opened on Wed, Dec 16, which was Day #4 of the 12 Days of Christmas Swap.

These were a lot of fun to make. We did these as a family. Now the trick was to find candies small enough to fit the boxes. The mini candy bars were about all that fit nice. We did smash up some candy canes and put in some..

Death- a poem by Nathaneil

My son is 11. I couldn't believe this poem he wrote. I asked him what made him think about this. He talked of his grandpa who died in 2006. I just recently went to a friends funeral, I suppose that is what made him get on this subject. Anyway..here is his poem:

Death is something that clings onto your entire life. It's something that you can't get rid of. It's something that will happen to everyone. Once if you hear or see a relative die, you can't forget it. You want to go back in and change it all so it won't happen, but you know you can't. You don't know if it is gonna happen to you, your dad or someone else. It comes unexpectedly. Sometimes you wish you could die but you don't want to and you don't realize it either. Death. It'll happen to everyone but you don't know when it will happen. For now just go out and live. The end

Baking Cookies

Every month we have a cut file swap on the TSI Forum. I thought of one thing we do around Christmas time at our house that we take pictures of ......that needs a special embellishment to complete a layout. We always bake during this time and Ashlynn just loves to help. Austin always seems to show up in time to lick the spoon but that's ok! Here's what I cut for this round and I cut plenty before the swap sign-up deadline commenced so I have a few extra. For every person that comments on this post I will enter your name in a drawing for a set that will be mailed to you. To be eligible, all comments must be posted by Tuesday, December 15. Updated Tealight Luminary file

Advent Calendars

There are so many fabulous advent calendars out there that you can make! I found this project idea on the Family Fun website and it was a real hit with my kids, nieces, & nephew. I cut out all of the basic Christmas-themed shapes on my KNK and we had them ready to go with tape. We also fastened together 4 strips of paper and attached a jumbo eyelet at the top where the ribbon is tied on for the hanger. You can imagine the excitement when the kids all returned from the park to get to work on this. They fastened the shapes to the front side and numbered each shape from 1 to 25. On the back of each number, they got to tape a piece of candy which will be their daily treat as Christmas creeps closer. My daughter shocked me by immediately asking for a pen to "doodle" on the shapes. For a 5-year old I think I may have a crafter on my hands! My kids think of this calendar the moment they wake up every morning. It helps put the time frame for Christmas into perspective for them. My only regret is that this is the first year I've done an advent calendar with my kids. From now on it's a new tradition!

Tealight Luminary II

Here is my take on the tealight luminary file that Kathy made. I made this for my Mom for part of her Christmas gift. It cut out beautifully; I just wish I had better paper to choose from when I made it. I heat embossed on the vellum and it worked much better than I expected. Thanks Kathy for making those special adjustments to your original file for me!

What have I been up to lately (or shall I say most of November)? A LOT of crafting! I have completed a Christmas-themed cut file swap, a Christmas card swap, a birthday perpetual calendar (for ME!) and most recently a 12-days of Christmas swap. I can only reveal one of these projects for now....and it's still a mystery. As the swaps are all received, I will share photos with you. For now though, I will share with you a sample of what I sent out in today's mail for our forum's 12-Days of Christmas swap. For now this is all I can share. My gift is #10 and it will be opened by all of the swap members on December 22. I can't wait to start opening the daily gifts....it will be here before we know it!

I played around and made a tearbear last night. I have made them in the past but this time I viewed a cd on how Olivia makes hers. Sherri sells that at Thatsscrapinc. I love the added fluffiness I got after learning her technique. Also this one is so much sturdier than the ones I made before. I got a little heavy on the chalking..lol
Also the white parts of the hat are treated with liquid applique. I just need to heat it up yet.

So H1N1 has hit!

There was some discussion on the yuku forum about whether people would get the H1N1 shot or not. Well, we don't get that choice now. Minnesota doesn't even have the shot yet and sure enough, my little darling has it. She has had high temps now for 4 days. LitaMarie just came home from school with same symptoms. She woke up achy today and I thought, ohoh and I checked her temp right away and it was normal. So gave her the choice if she wanted to stay home or not and what a good girl, she chose to go to school. But within 2 hours, she had a temp of 102! Came on real quick! So..5 more kids to get it....

I was playing around with a free file Scrapbookcircus gave us last year on the yuku forum. I made my first overlay. I just LOVE it! I had to dig some old pics out to see what it would look like filled. I think I will use some cool Halloween backround paper for the final.

Here's a layout of Halloween 2005 when Austin was 5. He loved his dinosaur costume and enjoyed all of the activities that went along with Halloween at his preschool. They decorated pumpkins and after the parade at school he was able to take his home. He insisted I take it to work and put it on my desk so that explains why there is a picture of me on this layout! I completed this layout for a challenge I hosted on the TSI Forum during the month of October and thought with the holiday approaching it was a good time to share it on here! Karon

My two boys are so sick today, Throwing -up, UGH!
They all went to ValleyScare last night. Lots of rollercoasters, treats and scares, so hopefully it is all from that.
They all did stay up way too late the night before too, Nathaniel had a sleepover birthday party with 7 friends. Lots of treats then too...

Last month we had a surprise visit from Craig's Uncle Larry. We haven't seen him in several years and it was a real treat! The kids just adored him and I think the feeling was mutual!Craig's Dad & Uncle Larry had so much fun chatting away with each other talking about everything under the sun. It was really nice to see him and for our kids to get to know him. Here are a some of the many pictures we took with him that day:

I cut the really cute file (Superhero) out on my KNK and putting the layout together was lots of fun! Here is an interesting and simple KNK file that went perfectly with my son's "Cowboy Day" at preschool. It's part of the N'Titled Membership at That's Scrap, Inc. and was created by Joanne6523. Austin had so much fun that day dressing up like a cowboy. I was given the photo of the preschoolers taking a pretend nap after eating their cowboy-style meal and it really added some character to the layout : )

I decided to start working on some of the photos in my son's book that are strictly preschool-related. I had a lot of fun making this page for a couple of reasons. The title was FUN!!! But I also dug thru his box of preschool papers...yeah that box where I have saved everything and this was from what 4 years ago? Well it paid off. I had this picture of him painting on an art easel in class and I figured out from all of his papers in the tub what exactly he was "creating." I took a photo of his painting and put it on the easel that I also created to embellish the page. This is something I plan to do for both of my kids' artwork. I wish I could save it all but I am sure documenting a photo of it in a scrapbook will be so much more appreciated than in a box somewhere in the future. OK credits... Wheew! The file conversion is quite a process! But I think I have most of it figured out! I do need some additional help with SVG, so if anyone wants to test some out for me, give a holler!

I Got my Scrappin Mojo Back!

It's been forever since I've done some serious scrapbooking! Although you never really forget (like riding a bike) it is very hard to get back into the "mode" to get layouts done. We had our monthly scrapbook club crop on Saturday and here is what I accomplished.

First of all, here is a layout utilizing a file that Kathy made for me. It's a little boy with a bug jar which accurately depicts what my son did with the ladybug he found. The ladybug inside the jar is one of the challenge files over on the TSI Forum created by Princess Ladybug (Rhonda). Thanks again Kathy for making this for me to use!

The next series of layouts are of our vacation to Colorado in 2005. The first one utilizes a file that I received for free from Designs by Sky (Rita) for completing one of her challenges several months ago. I'm so glad that I remembered I had this file. It was probably my favorite page of the day...I love the western look! I used Art Stix to give the frames an aged look.

Our favorite pasttime in Colorado is stopping at EVERY stream or river to throw rocks. To my knowledge nobody has made a file for this activity so I decided to make my own. You can see by the little spot where I have a wrap-around arrow that the rock is in mid-air. I'm probably going to switch it up a little to make a Skipping Rocks file for the professional rock throwers. My kids aren't quite that good; although this summer my son who is now 8 1/2 is getting a pretty good handle on skipping them!

The next one is a 2-page layout that I just put together using up photos of Craig with the kids and our train adventures. I don't know who made the train file but I just love the detail!

Desperately Seeking Independence

We live in a small town (our school system has a whopping 900 students in all). We only live 4 blocks from the elementary school. Still, it hasn't been easy to allow our 3rd grader the independence of riding his bike to school on his own yet. Last week we let him give it a try and he did great! After school he has to stay at the after-school program until a parent arrives to check him out. So once he's checked out he heads for the bike rack and rides his bike back home. It was a major step for Austin as well as Mommy...and Daddy laughed when he saw me take pictures of this landmark event. Even so, I have the photos and the memory and I'm compelled to share it with you also...

I have been working on this layout off and on for two months. I won this KNK file in a wishlist giveaway from That's Scrap, Inc. It's a fun file by ScrapbookCircus that fit nicely with the activities of my son when he was 4 years old playing at the park and picking cherries @ his Uncle's house. I played with my new Koh-I-Noor pencils on this layout and have to say that I just LOVE them!

Learning Lessons

Earlier this summer I signed up to host (and participate in) a 25-card swap with members of the That's Scrap Inc. forum. All 25 members had 3 months to complete their cards and the deadline is quickly approaching...it's August 31. So I didn't think I was procrastinating since I started these cards the last week of July. That's a whole month early, right? Well silly me, I found the coolest idea for a card and decided to scraplift it. Did I consider what this would all entail????? That's a big fat NO. I am almost done but thought I'd give you a sneak peek of what I've been playing around with. Kathy whined because this is all I showed her....you probably will too LOL!

design do or dont?

When I was designing these, I wondered about the layers...Is it ok to layer below..not on top? So the eyes and nose are actually below the other layers.
Ok, what one do YOU like better? One has a lot more layers and the other is so much easier to put together. Do you see a difference? I have 3 examples below :O)

Birthday Cupcakes!

I really think that scrapbooking has encouraged me to try new things, even with food! I have made some cool cupcakes and cookies over the past several years. My daughter, when asked what she wanted to take to daycare for her birthday, said "Frog cupcakes again!" Well, like a scrapbook layout, I have a very hard time bringing myself to do the same thing twice. So I surprised her with cupcakes decorated to look like her favorite fruit....watermelon! These were soooo easy! I got the idea from the Wilton website (sure wish I was talented enough to do some of those cool ideas).

Here's how I did it: I frosted the cupcakes white and dipped them in a bowl of red colored sugar until they were totally coated. Then I piped green frosting around the edge (I used a ziploc bag and snipped the end off) and poked 10 miniature chocolate chips into the top of each one. The only time consuming part of it was the chocolate chips...I had to poke 240 in them before I was done because I made up 2 dozen. Still, it was worth it....she loved them! Here she is at daycare with her happy smiling face! Happy 5th Birthday Ashlynn!!!

Well summer is almost over and I have done hardly any crafting..whats new..huh..lol
I did manage to make some invitations for Neohemiah's birthday and the big swap at the TSI forum though. I made Neo's invites two different ways. I used my sewing machine on some an then I decided it would be fun to imitate sewing with my KNK. So which one do you like better?
Its gotta be straighter through the cutter than it is my sewing machine. Hahaha

Here are the other cards I am in the process of working on. I am a bit afraid to stamp on my orange/green ones.. I have terrible stamping skills...lol I may just make a title on the KNK and put it on instead of risking stamping and ruining the whole card..LOL
This was really fun to do, well, the transparency card was pure torture, hahah, but making all the parts of the cards in the KNK software was a blast! Can you see how the stamp matches the flowers on the above card. Now to actually find some time to get a few scrapbook pages done.

I hate thinking of school already in July but this IS the time to get some GREAT deals on school supplies. I was listening to my local radio station and she gave a great example to even make $ doing your shopping! I always wondered how people did the "couponing". This website has a great example to get us all started!

1st Annual Walk Run Roll

I've been trying to get in shape this year and shed some pounds (haven't we all?). It has turned into a friendly competition at work and my boss challenged me to run the 5K with him on the morning of July 4. It was a fundraiser race for a brand new park that we are putting in our community this fall. I ran the full 3.1 miles three times before the big day to "train" for it but running on the track is nothing compared to running the hills and terrain at the State Park. It's been 18 years since I competed in Cross Country and this really brought back old memories. It was great fun though and I did finish the race with a reasonable time considering the course was not well-marked and we all ran an extra 1/2 mile. Here's a photo of my boss and I after running the race. Oh yeah, he beat me by 5 minutes....I'm never going to live that one down but he better watch out next year! But who knows, maybe I'll be ready to run the 10K instead? LOL!!! Did I say he's 55 years old? I'm really proud of him (he's lost about 40 lbs since February!). I've lost 25 so this has all been worth it.

Having Fun with Scooby Doo

About 4 years ago, my son attended a birthday party for a little girlfriend of his. The photos I took were so fun and bright that I had to include them in his album. It's so hard to put "pink" in a little boy book, but I pulled it off by using bright shades. Aren't the little dogbone cups adorable? My friend made the Mystery Machine out of an appliance box. It was so cute for the kids. She also had them solve the mystery of the "missing presents." It was an exciting party and this is how I helped to record this memory for him.
